🇭🇺 Fánk (Hungarian Doughnuts)

🧾 Ingredients

  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 250 ml warm milk
  • 25 g fresh yeast (or 7 g active dry yeast)
  • 50 g sugar
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 60 g butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Oil for frying

For Serving:

  • Powdered sugar
  • Apricot jam

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm milk with 1 tsp sugar. Let stand for 5–10 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, salt, egg yolks, vanilla, melted butter, and yeast mixture.
  3. Knead until a smooth, elastic dough forms.
  4. Cover and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll dough to about 1 cm thickness and cut into rounds.
  6. Cover and let rise again for 20–30 minutes.
  7. Heat oil to 170–175°C (340–350°F).
  8. Fry doughnuts for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  9. Drain on paper towels.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with apricot jam.
