🇭🇺 Hungarian Apple Pie (Almás pite)

🧾 Ingredients

  • 300 g flour
  • 150 g butter (cold)
  • 100 g sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt

Apple filling:

  • 5–6 apples (grated)
  • 2–3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp semolina or breadcrumbs (optional, to absorb juice)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Mix flour, baking powder, sugar, salt.
  2. Add butter + eggs, knead into dough. Divide into 2 parts.
  3. Mix grated apples with sugar + cinnamon. Let sit, then drain excess juice.
  4. Roll out first dough layer and place in baking tray.
  5. Add apple filling evenly on top.
  6. Cover with second dough layer.
  7. Bake at 180°C for 35–40 minutes until golden.
  8. Cool, slice, and serve (optionally with powdered sugar).
