🇭🇺 Hungarian Chicken Paprikash (Csirkepaprikás)

🧾 Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken thighs or drumsticks
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil or lard
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 250 ml chicken broth
  • 200 ml sour cream
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a large skillet or pot and sauté the onion until soft and golden.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the paprika.
  3. Add the chicken and garlic, then return to medium heat.
  4. Pour in the chicken broth and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Cover and simmer for 35–40 minutes, until the chicken is tender.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the sour cream and flour until smooth.
  7. Stir the sour cream mixture into the sauce and cook for 2–3 minutes, until slightly thickened.
