🇭🇺 Hungarian Chicken Paprikash (Chicken and Dumplings)
🧾 Ingredients
Chicken Paprikash:
- 1 kg chicken thighs or drumsticks
- 2 tbsp oil or butter
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 250 ml chicken broth
- 200 ml sour cream
- 1 tbsp flour
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Dumplings (Nokedli):
- 250 g all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs
- 100 ml water
- 1/2 tsp salt
👩🍳 Instructions
- Heat oil in a large skillet and sauté the onion until soft.
- Remove from heat and stir in the paprika.
- Add the chicken and garlic, then return to heat.
- Pour in the broth, season with salt and pepper, and simmer for 35–40 minutes until the chicken is tender.
- Mix sour cream and flour until smooth, then stir into the sauce. Simmer for 2–3 minutes.
For the Dumplings:
6. Mix flour, eggs, water, and salt into a thick batter.
7. Drop small spoonfuls into boiling salted water.
8. Cook until the dumplings float to the surface, about 2–3 minutes.
9. Drain well.
- Serve the chicken paprikash over the dumplings and enjoy.
